It's Good to Know How Auto-Dimming Rearview Mirrors Work

There are many reasons to be knowledgeable about how the features of your vehicle work and here, at Jaguar Cerritos, we want you to be aware of them. Understanding your vehicle better, allows you to be a better owner. One feature that makes night driving around Cerritos, CA safer is the auto-dimming rearview mirror.

Being blinded by the lights of a rear approaching vehicle can be annoying and dangerous. The auto-dimming rearview mirror was created to address this issue. Auto-dimming rearview mirrors use two sensors that work with a microprocessor to trigger the sending of a charge to electrochromic gel when headlight glare is detected.

Once particles within the gel receive the charge, they undergo an oxidation-reducing reaction. This, in turn, causes them to darken in a process that is known as electrochromism. This newly darkened gel resides between the two layers of glass the make up the mirror. It no restricts the amount of light from the vehicle behind you that can be reflected in your face.
